What's up, tortilla lovers! If you're a fan of Mexican food (and who isn't?), you know that nothing beats the taste of a fresh, warm flour tortilla. Sure, you can grab a pack from the store, but where's the fun in that? Plus, once you've tried making your own tortillas, you'll never want to go back to the store-bought stuff. But don't worry, making flour tortillas is easier than you might think. All you need is a few basic ingredients and a little bit of elbow grease. Trust us, it's worth it. Once you taste that first bite of a homemade tortilla, you'll be hooked. In this recipe, we'll guide you through the steps to make your own tortillas that are soft, fluffy, and downright delicious. Usually flour tortillas made with vegetable oil or lard, I used butter in this recipe, because..... it's more delicious. Whether you're a seasoned pro in the kitchen or a newbie looking to up your cooking game, this recipe is for you. So grab a rolling pin and let's get to work!

8 gr baking powder

Pan

Directions

Step 1

In a bowl, mix flour, salt and baking powder.

500 gr AP flour

12 gr salt

8 gr baking powder

Step 2

Add the butter and work it through your hands to create a sandy texture.

50 gr butter, soften

Step 3

Add the warm water and mix until you get an homogenous dough.

280 gr warm water

Step 4

Transfer the dough to a working surface and knead for 6-8 minutes or until the dough is elastic and smooth.

Step 5

Round into a tight ball and let it rest, covered with a towel, for about 10-15 min.

Step 6

Divide the dough into 30-35 gr pieces.

Step 7

Round each piece into a tight ball and let it rest for additional 10 min.

Step 8

Flour your working surface and roll out each ball to a thin round sheet (using a rolling pin). Roll as thin as you can.

Step 9

Bake the tortillas on a super hot pan until it blisters, then flip and bake for another 10-15 sec.

Step 10

In between baking sessions, keep the tortillas covered with a towel. It will keep them warm and soft.

Hello! Love the recipe, its really a game changer! Im having trouble with the best way to storage them, because I love to have 1 or 2 in morning as breakfast, but if I made them and freeze them cooked, they tend to get drier. Will love some input in the best way to have them always fresh! Thank you!

I will try this tomorrow:) I hope, I have a lot of recipes on mind but for this one I have the ingredients, and there doesn't seem to be as many calories, but someone said it didn't make them the same amount of tortillas as said so let's hope that doesn't happen to me lol

Doing this right now and decided to only do half. The dough was extremely sticky so I had to put in more flour. Maybe I shouldn't have just divided the ingredients in half?

Making tortillas is a great way to use your sourdough discard: try it! I usually add to the mix 150gr of sourdough discard and that's it! Have a nice Cinco de Mayo!
